MOTU 8D Sample rate conversion

Hi, not necessarily a Mac specific question, but does anyone know if the SRC on the 8D is bi-directional? We're looking for a way of connecting older digital effects units via AES/EBU at 48k to sessions recording at 96k. So sending audio out at 96k, SRC'd to 48k, sent to FX unit, then back SRC'd from 48k to 96k. Sounds crazy, but some older units still sound great and we'd prefer not to introduce AD/DA latency by going analog. Obviously there'd be some delay introduced with SRC but perhaps less than multiple DA/AD hops. Thanks.
