Saw the presentation this morning. Ghastly music but otherwise informative.

Apple hasn't finished listing prices but, if storage upgrades are priced the same as the Mini, the new 24" iMac is going to run + $600 over a comparable Mini. Considering that it will include a very nice display, camera, keyboard, mouse and improved speakers, same M1 chip etc. it looks to be a really good deal for many users… that is if a max 2TB onboard storage and the other current limitations including smaller display work for you.

This is not the iMac I am waiting for nor does it offer any reason to replace my wife's 2020 27" with the Nano-glass. Hopefully, the rumored 32" version will be announced soon. I could live with the M1 and its integrated 16GB max RAM for what I do but, if it doesn't have 8TB onboard storage, I'll stick with my iMac Pro, thanks all the same. Rumors are that it will have the next version of Apple Silicon. Not in a hurry…

The 12.9" iPad Pro, OTOH may be worth considering. Using the same M1 chip, it has the capability of being the current MB Air with a touch screen.

Will Apple let that happen? Too soon to tell. If so, I'm in. If not, my 2nd Gen is still working nicely after 2 years.

All good points. I think more than anything else this particular event cemented my thoughts that Apple will use a particular line of chips in multiple devices because they're the only customer for that chip. We will probably see the more powerful next M1x (or whatever they call it) included in the 27" iMac, 14 and 16" MacBook Pro, maybe the Mac Mini "pro" etc. I think we will see this as the new normal for Apple.

People are debating the craziness of having the M1 in the iPad Pro with all that new connectivity, ability to use external monitors etc. and still only iOS. It's getting pretty old IMO, all the arguments against iPads being able to run Mac OS are starting to sound like people back in the day who argued for the one button mouse. I'm personally tired of wishing for Apple to get their head out of their behinds about this, they have better touch tech than Microsoft, better chips, but no OS on a device like the Microsoft Surface? I think it's about time for Apple to admit their mistake and put their big boy OS on the iPad.

I couldn't agree more. The new iPad Pro is the Mini and MB Air in a different form — not "like", is but with a touchscreen.

Will Apple let it Be all that it can be??? If so, I can replace my 12.9" iPad and MBP with one device.

The argument was that touch screens and keyboards require different angles for comfort, touch requires at least a 45 degree angle to alleviate zombie or dinosaur arm syndrome from reaching at heart or above level. All of this falls flat with the advent of the magic keyboard for iPads.

Plus, Apple has never had a problem with canibalizing their own products sales by releasing similar items that directly compete etc. I think it's more about pride like the one button mouse. Admitting Gates was right about something and going against Jobs's thoughts on touch screens is another part of it.

At this point though, I would be surprised if in the next couple years they don't announce complete or almost complete integration between iOS and Mac OS. Meaning that iPads will be able to run DP, FCP, Logic, Premiere etc.

Sure, but unless the accountants are asleep, they'll still only do it when there is a reasonable prospect of net gain. They don't seem to have reached that point.

Yeah, I bought an iPad for the first time last November so I fully expect that the current M1 iPad will get Mac OS compatibility at WWDC in June here. You can thank me for this, as I'm sure my iPad Air will not qualify.
