Just wondering if GarageBand instruments could be used in DP 4.52.
Tried with GB v1.1 installed but nothing appear in the track instrument list.
Any idea ?

I haven't seen a way to do this on the boards. Apparently, Apple created the AU spec as a universal plug format for their OS so that "all" programs could use them, but what they meant by all in their case is all of their programs, like FCP, Garageband, Logic, etc. Others plugs can be used in their programs, but theirs are harnessed to Apple programs and cannot play with third party software hosts. I don't think this will change as it seems they use their plugs as a value add for their software owners. I suppose you could use soundflower (a free download from Cycling 74) to patch the sound from Garageband into your host, but you may get latency issues. I believe some folks are also using the freeware program called "Jack" to accomplish the same task.

In the mixer window, I use the pulldown for plugins and there is an Apple folder at the bottom with all the Apple AU plugins listed. Just select one. They are kind of CPU hogs.

I think we are talking about the Apple Virtual Instruments, not the processing plugs. Those plugs are system level and are indeed available to all AU hosts. Many folks really like the Matrix Reverb and it's free with the system software (I guess that's not really free). The VI's which come with Garageband are unavailable to other AU hosts as far as I know.

Oh, the Apple AU plugins. Well yeah, everyone can access them.
You said you could use the GarageBand plugs in DP. I think everyone assumed you meant the effects specific to GarageBand. Or maybe the GarageBand VIs (which is, after all, the topic of this thread). Either of which would've been cool.

I have been succesful in transforming Gargeband instruments to Kontakt and then loading them into DP. Don't try the the multi-level orchestral ones in Jam Pack 4, but the Orchestral Percussion Kit, which sounds great by the way, plays very nicely.

How did you do it? Is it possible to use them in Digital Performer 4.12?

If you have MachFive, it's an easy conversion:

As has been already posted, go to the tech notes from MOTU and search SOUNDFLOWER. Very simple to get GB as a VI in DP.

I followed the instructions to use GB software instruments in DP (using soundflower). It basically worked except:
1. there was a delay (latency) that made it kind of useless (unlike playing
the same instrument directly in GB which feels tight)
2. It wasn't multitimbral. It would only play the one instrument seleced in GB
