MIDI Mahem! - RESOLVED

Guys,
Hope you can help. I have two NEW wacky MIDI Problems that suddenly just popped up out of nowhere and they're driving me crazy.
1) In the MIDI edit window, the MIDI notes are nowhere to be found. I use a breath controller and those commands are plain to be seen, but where did the MIDI notes go?? It must be something simple, I hope.
2) This is crazier. When I record in MIDI, or JUST have the record button on for a track, an Eb note repeats about every 1 and a half seconds! I can't get it out of there.
I have tried:
1) a new MIDI cable
2) completely replaced my audio-MIDI interface
3) tried a completely different MIDI keyboard
None of these things helped.
I tried opening up a new document, but it does the same thing every time! Arghhhh! Help.

Check the View Filter settings. I'm not sure what modifier key, but it's a combo with "F" I think. Not in front of DP and can't remember right now. Sometimes "notes" gets unchecked.

Darn it! I wish it had been that simple! But "notes" are checked in the View Filter.

I think another reason MIDI doesn't show up is that the MIDI I/O ports may have been defined/attached to a control surface in Setup --> Control Surface Setup. I don't know that this would explain the Eb thing though. Does the breath controller have different modes?

Hi Charles,
No, nothing different in Control Surface Setup.
It will happen with ANY MIDI keyboard, putting the breath controller away.
VERY annoying, since you can't play a simple line without the mystery "Eb" interrupting.
HOWEVER, I figured out that if I record a solo MIDI line AT THE TAIL of the song (after all the data), the Eb doesn't show up.
Then, I can paste that line back into the song, but it's a weird way to record.
At least MIDI will show up in the Sequence Editor, but the Eb is still there.
This is bizarre.

I trust you have re-booted since the problem arose...

You've tested your MIDI sources in another DAW/sequencer? That would rule out the external cause.
You've check for some "side process" causing it-- like some other MIDI process running on the side?
It may be that some damage to the sequence/project you are using is causing DP to malfunction. As a test, you can just open a new project and see if it works. If it works normally, you can start a new project and try to import (load...) what you need from the corrupt project. If not, you can trash prefs and reinstall DP.
That stuff can be so frustrating!!

First thing you should do is get a copy of MIDI Monitor, it's free and you can see any activity coming in and out of DP or any application on your computer. Personally I think this looks like a hardware problem of some kind. Mostly I've had SysEx issues this way but a note isn't out of the question. The fact that it's the same note every time points to some sort of hardware thing to me.

THANKS to all who chimed in on this dilemma with suggestions!
I THOUGHT I had the same problem with ALL other files, but I just found out that apparently it's something wacky with this ONE song.
I got the song completed, despite it's issues, and even the MIDI notes are back.
Who knows what the issue was, but I'm thinking it must have been something corrupt with that one file.
I'm back on track!
Thanks, one and all!

Pheeew! Glad you were able to get it done.
In the future, odd behavior can often be a "broken" project. (One of the weird weaknesses of DP). Sometimes loading chunks from a broken project into a fresh project can fix the issue.
