Seems like there should be a way that I could control the pitch knob of the AUPitch plugin with some other kind of controller besides the mouse.

If/when I use the mouse, the knob moves too much and it's not a smooth movement anyway.

How can I create a gradual movement of that specific parameter (pitch) of that specific plugin (AUPitch)? It's an Apple plugin that apparently ships with DP, FWIW. It's not very impressive but I feel like that's because it's impossible to get a smooth and/or gradual movement out of it. However, if I could draw something in, I think it would work. However...

All my attempts to draw something with the pencil tool don't amount to much. In fact, all i seemingly can do is create some sort of dotted line on the over the track (in the sequence editor) that does nothing. Like, it's not 'applied' or something? Perhaps I need to enable record-automation?

I'm attempting to do this pitch bend on an audio track NOT a MIDI track.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks!!

This is definitely possible. I've done it before. I had a music track that I needed to sound like an old stretched out film. I used automation to control the Apple PitchAU.

You do have to turn on automation for that track, otherwise, you'll see the dotted line you describe.

Does anyone know if there's a way to place the first dot (using the pencil) at precisely 0? There is a scale on the track (which goes from 0 to 2400) when using the pencil but i can't seem to figure out how to start at EXACTLY 0 on said scale??? There's got to be a way!

One would think that holding the shift key or something could accomplish this but no. It's virtually impossible to move the mouse in small enough increments to put it exactly where i want it. And that's not even mentioning the fact that I also have to choose an ending point as well.

Or perhaps i could draw the dots and then manually enter numbers in a text field somewhere??

First, embiggen the track vertically so you can see and control things a little better.

When you put your pencil in the automation field, you'll see the coordinates of your location. Get it close to zero then click. Then you can select that dot and type in the value of zero. Bob's your uncle.

No matter what number i enter into that field I'm getting the apple "bonk" noise. I've searched for some open form hiding behind some other window but nothing...

Something is preventing me from doing this. This is somewhat frustrating to say the least.

EDIT: The behavior is exactly the same if I attempt doing this using the Event Information pane as well. In other words, manually entering a number in that field seems to be illegal.

Are you using some kind of MIDI controller?
If so, make sure it isn't sending any MIDI. This happened to me the other day and it was driving me crazy... since my controller's Mod wheel is quite loose, it kept sending MIDI messages, making entering manual numerical values imposible until I made it stay put.

OK. I just tested it with DP 9.52 and it works as I described. Here's what I did:

Created a stereo audio track. Recorded some garbage into it. Went to mixer and in the first insert slot, I place the Apple/AUPitch effect. In the Sequence Editor, on the left side, I went to the "Auto" pulldown and made sure Play and Latch were checked. I then went to the "Insert" pulldown and went to the Insert A: AUPItch, and from there I chose Pitch from the list of automate-able parameters. I then clicked a dot on the automation lane. Now in the Event area I see:

E 1|1|000 - Insert A: AUPitch [Pitch] 812.254

I click on that last number and type "0" and it changes to 0.000
