Hey guys, just to let you know I went on Mac Rumours and discovered many people with a 2009 flashed Mac Pro had the same problem as I have going from Mojave 14.4,5,6. Turns out that in 14.4 and up Apple changed something in the update and the OS does not work with Nehelam processor,s. Works only with Westmere. Guys have changed to Westmere and the audio problem goes away. As I noted all is fine on High Sierra 13.6. If I have to move up to the last version of Mojave I would have to change the processor. I,m at 14.3, and all is well at this time. Anyways thought I would post just for info.Mike and Marcus had chimed in about this problem and it was bugging me !

Thanks for the info... might this inspire you to try the upgrade to two X5680s or 90s? That 8 core will be a lot better for DP as a 12 core Westmere!

If you don't want to tackle the upgrade, I understand. Due to the use of de-lidded CPUs in 4,1 dual-CPU Mac Pros, they are trickier to upgrade than true 5,1 duals.

Yeah thinking about it. I will hire someone to do that for me. Out of my expertise. I,m in Canada so I am not sure what cost the processors are. I will check that all out. I,m thinking this is the best way for me to go cost wise with my 2009 MacPro. I just want to stay with High Sierra and Mojave. Happy where I am with hardware and software. Thanks again Marcus !

Check EBay for the CPUs. You can find de-lidded ones, too.

Any PC repairman worth his salt should be able to do the job. Make sure whoever it is has the 2009 Mac Pro repair manual on hand.
