Mac Security Update 2020-005 Problems?

I am seeing a lot of reports indicating really high RAM usage and slow boot times. These seem to be linked to Mojave. I'm still on High Sierra and was wondering if anyone is seeing it there?

a) it’s rare and does not just affect T2 equipped Macs. Though the symptoms are different, the fixes are the same.
b) Threads on MacRumors know it’s a High Sierra problem while others swear it’s a Mojave problem — and there are those who are upset at Apple for introducing it in Catalina. Despite the thousands of posts, I’m guessing about 20–40 users in those threads actually experienced it. I shared the correct diagnoses and solutions don’t read those sections anymore.
c) I first encountered this in OS 10.8.2. I later encountered it in High Sierra 3/2019 and Mojave 3/2020 (different Macs) but not this time with 2020-005.
d) it happens in the presence of old code—Apple Support is quite helpful in helping to find and remove the problem files. Removing the offending .kext files stops the crashing but doesn’t fix the resulting six minute boot time or inability to shut down. Though the same fix applies to both symptoms, I’ve not seen both symptoms at the same time on the same Mac.

Thanks for the input, Mike. I've never had a problem with a Security update before, but I'll sit this one out for a while.

I just installed a Security Update on Mojave a day or two ago, but am not seeing any problems as a result.

Good news Jim. I'll try it after I clone my boot drive.

Looks like Apple has acknowledged issues with this update (for Mojave) and has released a supplemental update that is supposed to fix "performance" problems. There was another thread here talking about very slow DP loading etc with Mojave. Perhaps it will deal with that.

I ran my timing benchmarks after updating to Catalina 10.15.7 on my MBP and running the 2020-005 update on my Mojave machine.
Now I'm getting ready for a new iMP. Sold this one (as soon as the $$$$ clears) and am buying another from the Refurb Store. I've been doing way too much swapping between my system drive and externals so I'm upgrading to 4TB onboard.
I wish I could hold out for the rumored iMP upgrade but no one knows if it's happening 2020 or 2021. Meanwhile, opportunity's a-knocking — better answer the door.

Thanks for the info on this.
I had a significant issue last time I tried to update. Now, with both drive clone on hand and your success story in mind, I stand ready to try again.
