Retire MacPro 1,1?

I have been using an iMac since 2017 (see signature) and I am working on a band project that will push it in DP for the first time (I've worked on smaller projects since 2017). If the iMac starts kacking, I _assume_ that buying V Ens Pro and installing it on a slave would help. I do have have an old MacPro 1,1 with OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

So, here's my question. Is the MacPro 1,1 usable, or should I save much gnashing of teeth and buy something like a Mac Mini?

I apologize if this post should be in a different forum -- I'm not sure where it should go.

If you have a reason to own a Mac that only runs OS 10.4.11–10.7.5, then keep it. If not, what's the point?

A buddy of mine is running DP 5.13 on a G5 1.8 Dual and doesn't have a problem other than the heat (main reason I got rid of my identical rig).

An MP 1.1 would be an upgrade for him... but he is not you and neither are any of us.

I'm just wondering if a MacPro 1,1 is of _any_ use as a slave to my iMac. The MacPro would have to hacked to run anything later than 10.7 Lion, I think.

I'm trying to think ahead in case DP can't handle all the VIs in this band piece. The only answer, I guess, would be to run VEP (which I don't currently own) on a slave.

You can always Freeze or Bounce VIs...
