DP 10.11, 2019 Macbook Pro clicks and pops

Hello,
Anyone else having issues with DP 10.11 on a 16" Macbook Pro 2019 with 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9?
I am getting clicks and pops during playback on files that played just fine on my 2012 Macbook Pro 13".
Another strange issue is that when I plug headphones into the headphone jack it continues playback from the Macbook speakers. I can switch to Apple Music and Amazon Music and it switches to the headphones for play back, when I switch back to DP it goes back to the built in speakers, very strange. Apple was no help in trouble shooting, saying it is third party software, and they can't test that. Did a SMC reset, no help. I received this computer two days ago.
Found this link:

Any input, haha, would be appreciated, especially good input with a clean throughput.
Regards,
Jim

Apple gave you the right answer — this is 3rd party and he doesn't know that DP doesn't follow Apple's protocols — never did.
Hard to remember but it does not follow Audio MIDI Setup and must be done manually. You did this a long time ago with the old machine—we just don't remember after a few years. If I hadn't been doing this a lot over the last couple days with multiple interfaces, I wouldn't have remembered either.
In DP: From the top menu, click on Setup, scroll down to Configure Audio System and over to Configure Hardware Driver and select your headphone outs from there.
Now, in your tracks, select Output, New Stereo Bundle and you should see your headphones there.

Problem solved.
MOTU suggested increasing the buffer size, which was 64, oops. I changed it to 1024 and bingo, all is good.
Thanks for your reply.

P.S.
the output for the headphones does now have to be set specifically, unlike previous versions. That can be set in the hardware configuration.
Thanks,
Jim

Yes but that's not why it's different. You can now set DP to something different than System Audio.
I track in headphones plugged into an interface like most of us but can now switch to my studio monitors in Configure Hardware without having to go to System Preferences first. Takes a few seconds when I want to mix or just hear what I did without 'phones.
Your post makes this sound like a negative. I really like this new feature a lot.

I'm just trying to get my head round this. You say it takes a few seconds to make the switch in the hardware configuration, Mike, but that's not true if you have a bunch of VIs running, because it has to reload them all every time... or am I missing something?
This has got to me at the moment because I've just got my shiny new iMac Pro, which means I can no longer use my old Saffire Pro 14 interface (at least, not without a nasty old chain of expensive adapters). So for now, until the MOTU M4 I ordered in February turns up(!) I'm having to use the built-in speakers, or headphones through the built-in connection, with my nice Adam-A7 monitors lying idle. The internal speakers are OK for getting all my basic MIDI material in, but for mixing no way! I need to use headphones with Waves' lovely Abbey Road Studio 3 plug-in. So I have to make that change to the config every time I switch. I fail to see how this is a positive.

Not sure if this is helpful, but you can change the output assignments of all VIs at once. If you’re not changing the Audio Configuration, only assignments, they don’t reload. I’m not 100% positive but the reload only happens when the A/config changes.

Thanks, MLC, but no, that doesn't really address what I'm talking about here - though it might be helpful to someone else on the thread?
