Digidesign MBox2 announced

You can read about it at the Digi site.

Most notable is what it DOESN'T have.

-no firewire (still USB)
-no 96k (still maxes out at 48k)
-no price reduction (still $495 list)

All that seems to be changed is the addition of MIDI i/o, and the ability to record on both the analog and digital inputs at the same time. Snore.

Considering what they could have done, I'm astonished that this is all they could come up with after all these years.

Having an M-Box myself I agree.
I looked at and wasn't even slightly interested in (ahem)
"upgrading" to that one
But ummm nice box though

I'm starting to wonder, what's in a name?
The focusrite preamps on my M-Box sound like dog poo.

No argument from me.
I have Protools just to keep up with it and run a few sessions from time to time and that's about it

i just bought the OLD mbox yesterday. I need PT as a transfer because all the other studios use PT and not DP.

I tried to play a SMALLLLL project and kept getting alerts to increase buffer.

is USB just not even possible at ALLL with recording?

Of course it is..
I've done it often
Not sure what your problem is though

as i stated, the recording/playback keeps stopping and says the USB is not working properly and to INCREASE MY BUFFER size. My buffer size is TOTALLY maxed out.

Are there bottlenecks when running USB through a HUB?

Running through a hub with an M-Box is a bad idea.
If that's what you're doing, that could be most of your problem
right there.
Give the M-Box its' own usb port.

Which tells me you turned the buffer setting up, but doesn't explain
what could be causing your problem

i have no idea what would be causing that problem. im assuming its the HUB or some other issue.

If you're plugged into a hub, STOP
Plug directly into a FREE available USB port..
NO HUBS!
It's in the M-Box manual as well.
Remember, you're dealing with pretty limited bandwidth
in USB 1.
That's not to say you can't use it for recording, but plugging
into a hub with (potentially) other devices will cause problems.
