Aggregate Devices and popping audio.

Quick Question...
I am one of the people that is experiencing crackling audio on tracks I'm recording on. I saw a tip on here that said to create an aggregate device and it would stop this. Well... I went out bought me a copyof OSX panther and followed the tip..IT WORKED! I was so elated.
However....
They are back!! What gives?
All I want to do is to be able to record. That's all I want.. It has been 10 months since I've been able to complete a track on my machine. And for the price I paid for this software, this is absolutely B.S. I feel like I have been ripped off by MOTU.
Does anyone else know of any other fixes? I am so frustrated I want to go to MOTU headquarters and crack some Unicorn skulls!!

ooo joy -
Are you using multiple hardware devices (ie shift clicking them in the hardware setup box)?
no fixes for that other than NOT use ADevices for the moment and only select ONE device in the hardware setup (ie your soundcard) which, i know, kind of misses the point....or maybe i'm missing the point!
Otherwise, put DP into cycle mode and press play, the clicks and pops disappear. Wierd hack but it works.
I've not really got to the bottom of this - I haven't really got a straight answer. But then again, I'm not sure that anyone has. Even the veterans like Shoosie et al. Atleast that is my opinion.
Any answers anyone/MOTU?
In the meantime I'll try to make some music....oops it crashed!!

My advice is to avoid aggregate devices like the plague. You will probably see some very strange behaviors begin to emerge, like tracks showing up in the wrong chunks, plugins that go to the wrong track (and possibly the wrong chunk) and other weirdness. Good luck.
By the way, I'm in my fourth day of reinstalling the entire system: OSX, all my applications, drivers, etc., in hopes of clearing out the damage done by aggregate devices. I think MOTU realizes they have a bug on their hands, but I've had no response from them yet.

Somehow that sounds about right.

At one time, there WAS some benefit to ADevices with certain sound cards. And in my own testing (using Lynx AES-16) it is beneficial to create one aggregate device in the Audio MIDI setup- but never select that device within DP's hardware setup. In DP's Hardware Setup, just select one hardware driver for the actual card/interface you have.
