OK, this is really running me thin. I'm running Tiger 10.4.2 on a G5, with plenty of ram and diskspace. I have all the new updates that MAC's got out for the system. As I'm running labor intensive programs, mostly audio like ProTools, Digital Performer, Peak, ect, sometimes when I leave the program all of the folders on my desk top just dissapeare!! AND my side bar (not the dock) that has my movies/documents/music.. folders are gone too. All thats there is are my hard drives. So I have to restart and magicaly my desktop folders are back but I have to reload my side bar again. THis has happened way too much, expecially on such an nice computer like the new G5's. And no, I can't attribute this to any one programn, because not one in specifically is causing this and yes they've all been update to Tiger Compatible. Yes I've repaired permissions and done the Boot C and repaired disk. nothings wronge. Anyone.. please...

I suggest you invest in a DiskWarrior. It has saved me more then often. The directory can go wonkey especially if there are unexpected "quits or crashes". Even normal events such as adding/deleting files can change the direcotory whereby the Finder gets confussed.

It seems that your directory needs reailignment.

DiskWarrior is a one trick pony. It will "graph" what TIGER's directory looks like and then you can decide to rebuild it. The "rebuild" of the directory by DiskWarrior will restore TIGER's directory to "factory" settings. And that makes the Finder function correctly.

Apple's Disk Utility can't do that.

TechToolPro is another excellent system maintenance software to invest in.

Both are well worth the money.
