Apple Cinema Display Mounts

Has anyone had experience converting Cinema Displays for VESA mounts or with mounting dual monitors one-above-the-other?

I’ve been using a 27” Apple Cinema Display for years and have been pleased with it. I know there are many better monitors out there, but I honestly have never found myself wishing for something better... either for DP or for video editing.

My wife has an identical Cinema Display she got from her work. She no longer uses it and her corporate IT told her she could just keep it, as I’m sure they depreciated it off their books years ago. Anyhow, I would like to try setting up dual monitors for DP. In my setup, they’d need to be arrayed vertically—one above the other.

I’ve been doing some research on adapting Cinema displays for VESA mounts and vertical monitor mounts. What I’ve found is several companies who make a knock-off of a VESA adapter that Apple used to make ranging from no-names for $20 up to $40 for one by Tether Tools, who makes really good gear for pro photo studios. Then there’s the stand: I found this one on Amazon that looks good to me: Tripp Lite Dual Monitor Mount Stand/Clamp, Vertical https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AWAY8E6/re ... ADbY5CDF35

So—is there any difference in the VESA adapters? Any other dual-vertical desktop mounts I should consider?

Thanks.

Although they may be pricey (haven't checked lately), I've alway liked the Innovative Monitor mounts. Their products fit and finish is excellent in my experience. But some of their stuff probably costs more than a nice display!

I like the mounting solutions they provide... more secure than a base that simply rests on the desktop. Then again, a couple of screws driven thru the base of the TrippLite would keep things stable for sure.

Check MonoPrice.com, too.

Yeow! $650 list for a mount!? I’m sure it’s a good one, though.

FYI: The Tripp Lite has the option of clamping to the desktop, though with the large footprint of the stand base, I was thinking of starting with that.

Thanks for the suggestion.

If my 30” Cinema is any indication, the 27” is likely pretty heavy. It doesn’t seem unreasonable that the mount would be somewhat pricey. A lightweight flat screen mount can run $150 for a decent mount so while $650 seems high, it’s not unreasonable imo.

Most current monitors will adapt to a standard VESA mount with 4 bolts. My new $250 27" LG 4Ks are no exception.

True... but the cinema displays do not have threaded holes for VESA mounts. Since I already have two of them that meet my needs, spending $40-80 for adapters is way cheaper than $500+ for two new monitors. (Unless I’m missing something...)
