Hey video-minded tech folks... anyone ripping Blue Ray movies off encrypted (commercial) discs (DVD) on a Mac?
I'm on Sierra.6, 2013 MacPro (trashcan). I know I'll need a B-ray drive and software (duh!). If you have suggestions on those, as well, I would be most appreciative.
Thanks!

For your own private use, of course! I'm a strong believer in HandBrake:

Thanks. For the record, I'd only be ripping silent films for screenings where the distributor has approved the public screening(s). The issue is that playback is often not possible off a Blur Ray disc in a theater. So I'll be ripping (again, with permission) the films sans any soundtrack or score so that the movie and version I compose/rehearse to will be the exact same one that is screened. I'll spare you the mirror stories about how that can otherwise go wrong.
I'm also looking at
this to pull the movie off the disc.
External Blue Ray players are not all that easy to find. OWC only lists two. I did go with their best
one.

If HandBrake works. I'd go with that. It doesn't work with some copy protection, I'm told.
As far as burning a disk, if that will be an issue, those I know recommend Toast with the Blu-Ray plugin. Corel owns it now so the best deals bundle a bunch of apps I don't need and have never used ... but $40 is a good price on Toast Pro 17 and the offer is legit. If you've never bought from Cult of Mac before, the -10% popup entitles you to a lifetime of email in exchange for saving the additional $4. In any case, no need to pay $99 to OWC.

Of course, if HandBrake does the job...

Thanks. I doubt I’ll ever need to burn a blue ray. I’ll want some editing capabilities for sure while converting to a more “universal” format.
Also, I’m expecting that any perceived (actual or imagined) increased quality of a blue ray will be lost in the conversion process. If it even works.
