Finale 26.1 is out, sale pricing

Scoring Notes is free and a useful resource for any of us that use notation software. Last year, I was able to get Garritan World Instruments for free when I upgraded to Finale 26 due to information I found there and nowhere else.

Today...

For those of us with 26 already, checking for updates will say up to date which is incorrect. The 26.1 update can be downloaded from your account at
https://store.makemusic.com/Downloads

Sale prices are $249 for new users and $99 for upgrades using the code FINALE261.

Competitive crossgrades are no longer in the dropdown but, per the article are available if Sales is contacted directly. I don't see them at Sweetwater but GuitarCenter online has them at $119.

When I don't see my upgrade offers at Sweetwater, I always call my rep there (Stephen Oppenheim in my case) and he pretty much always gets the "upper" echelons to procure it at the price the company is advertising elsewhere. So, it has always been worth the call, and I've been able to use my Sweetwater card!

Guitar Center always just shrugs and says, "Well, I dunno. It's not on my list." Worthless.

100%

Showing my Sweetwater rep that something is available at GC that they should have usually results in price matching and "I'll have to special order but I can get it for you".

Yes, I like the six months to four years to pay off my latest purchase on the Sweetwater Card, too.

Thanks for posting that Mike -- I'm about to prepare some marked up parts for a flutist and was nervous about the glitches in v26 that are fixed in v26.1 regarding articulations, as I knew it would slow down her learning and mastering the parts. She uses Finale also, so the improved MusicXML handling is also welcome.

You’re welcome. Glad to help.

Scoring Notes has an interesting article on how spaces and line widths affect the look of Finale, Sibelius and Dorico — and what you can do with this info to change the look.

Not everything is that informative, of course, but I’ve enjoyed the free subscription. It’s saved me money a few times as well.

I wonder if the website has been crushed by high demand?

I've now tried eight times; twice on Safari and the rest on Opera (my most dependable downloader), and never once does it even show the download as having started.

Note that I wasn't on v26 yet (I forgot that I hadn't upgrade from v25) so I did the $99 upgrade tonight, but neither the full v26 DMG nor the smaller v26.1 updater file responds when I click, in either browser.

I deleted Firefox from my Mac years ago as it became so unstable; though it is my primary browser on Windows at work (and even on my ancient Mac there as well).

I don't use Chrome because I got bit bad by the initial pre-beta "alpha" release; I had to rebuild my computer afterwards. Once bitten twice shy.

Perhaps I will have to download one of those browsers to have success, or do this at work tomorrow and then copy it to a USB thumb drive to bring home?

Finally the download is working, from Safari only, but quite slowly, and it took ten minutes before it left a mark on my hard drive, which is why I thought it hadn't started downloading yet (especially as Safari's progress bar showed no action either).

Probably it is the case that their servers are overwhelmed by simultaneous downloads due to the update. And yet, a few minutes later, the download size is still only 10 kb.

Weird, Mark. I was able to d/load right away last week. I've done a lot of work in 10 and a bit in 10.01. The bug that the articulation tool sometimes goes south is still there. I can't out my finger on it, but it def started in F26 and it SUCKS sometimes... Otherwise, it's behaved fairly well, for Finale. I've also found page layout to be unpredictable at times. It's really not any easier to use Finale than it ever was, just a different set of annoying bugs, but that's true of a lot of software. I just learn to live with it.

The output, OTOH, is fabulous. I'm happy. My musicians are happy. My audience... well... you can't please everybody all the time... lol

Michael, I'll try from work tomorrow then. Sometimes there are after-hours server issues and no one to maintain until the work day begins anew -- especially with smaller companies. I've given up for now, because I need to close my browsers so I can launch a DP session and get some real work done. :-)

Downloading from Firefox on Windows 10 only took under a minute, so I have copied it to a USB thumb drive to take home tonight and load onto my iMac running Mojave.

It took about a dozen or so launches and Force Quits, but I have it authorized and running now. The biggest problem with Finale is that it provides no feedback during plug-in validation, but by now I know to assume that's the problem when it's stalling after a reinstallation. Mostly this is due to Vienna Ensemble, and that causes similar crashes in Studio One and Logic but NOT in Digital Performer. :-)
