Pie-424, pci-424 computer upgrade performance worse.

Post by lbcbdr »

Hello all, My system was win 10, intel I7, 32gig ram asus x79 sabertooth. Motu Geer:2408, 24i,2408mk3, &24 i/o pci-424 card. Have had that system running for many years running flawlessly. I had a hardware crash on the computer unrelated to MOTU geer and took the oppertunity to upgrade the computer to Asus prime Z390-a 32gig faster 6core i7 asus thunderport expansion card. This motherboard does not have a PCI slot so I picked up a used PCIe-424. Motu geer runs worse on this system. I can barley record audio at 512 buffer without clicks or pops. I used to be able to record at 128. Also in the MOTU control panel when i switch to any of the other devices to turn on or off inputs or outputs i click one check box and it jumps back to the first device in the list (the 24i in my setup). Also I am clocking them externally from a black lion audio word clock( this was used in both systems) and when i switch from 44.1 to 48 of 48 to 44.1 sometimes they don't switch over but also the clock display in the control panel sometime does not reflect the spamle rate settings on the boxes i.e. I set the clock from 48 to 44.1 and all devices reflect that but if i open the control panel it still says 48. Does any one have any thoughts I am on the latest software version and have tried the original version that is the same vintage as the card.

Also I am thinking of upgrading to the new avb boxes. I will have to do that piecemeal. If i get a 16a to start in cubase will it see both the pcie-424 and the 16a under the MOTU ASIO driver or will there be 2 drivers to choose between.

Thanks for your thoughts

I had an occurrence a few years ago with an 828 mk3 hybrid where the "MOTU Audio Wave for 64 bit" Windows audio system drivers (not the ASIO ones) would "force" the sample rate to their settings in the Windows Sounds control panel and its "Advanced" tab, switching back from ones I'd set in ASIO. On that machine, only disabling the "MOTU Audio Wave for 64 bit" device in the device manager gave me any relief.

Might be worth looking at, perhaps. If you need the Windows audio part, make sure every channel in both the Playback and Recording sides are set to the desired sample rate.

Thanks again Terry That solved the issue with the sample rate and the buffer issue. I disabled the MOTU PCI Wave driver in device manager. It did no fix the jumping back to the first unit every time i change the routing in device 2,3,or 4.

Also I forgot to mention that in the process of updating drivers and such direct monitoring in Cubase pro 10 has stopped working if I click on direct monitoring I get no sound. This was working on the new computer before I tried to fix the other issues. LOL

Another issue I am having all of a sudden is that Direct monitoring in cubase pro 10 is not working. I get sound with the box unchecked and no sound with the box checked. It happened when i was trying to figure out the issue above when i was trying different driver versions. Any Thoughts.

LBC. Thanks
