I can't find High Sierra. I need to install it.

I have two MacPros 5,1 . 3.46. The 2nd MP is still on ancient Yosemite. I want to install FCP on it. I have VEP and intend to use it as my VI computer. I tried buying FCP but it won't install unless it's at least High Sierra. So I tried installing Mojave but Mojave won't install on Yosemite. And HS won't install on Yosemite. I can't find High Sierra at the App Store. Can anyone point me to High Sierra?

This page is supposed to have links to the full installer. Not on my Mac at the moment but, if this doesn’ Pan out, I’ll remember how to use my ftp server to get it to you.

Thank you! I'm just having problems. It might not be compatible. I have a 2009 MacPro I upgraded to 3.46 gz 5,1. But when I try to install High Sierra it says I need to upgraded the firmware. I try but it doesn't seem to do it. Then I just got a possibly fake notice from Apple saying there's a problem with my account. All purchases will be suspended until I fix it. CLICK this button. I'm too paranoid. LOL.

OK, well I don't get it. I have two MacPros. I was wrong. The one I'm typing on now, my MAIN one, is early 2009. The one I'm trying to install HS on is mid 2010, the year they say is fine. So I must be doing it wrong. I looked very careful at the instructions and am trying one more time.

When Mac shuts down I hold the startup button until I hear the long beep. Then it's supposed to take a little while. I'm supposed to see the progress bar, which I don't see. I think this is because I'm not using an apple monitor. I've waited in this mode for the Mac to cycle and restart up to almost 2 hours. Yikes. But it SHOULD install. Anyone have any advice for me? Is this normal?

I think I'm making progress. Ignore me for now. LOL.

We’re you able to upgrade to high Sierra. I was having the same problem with the firmware.

I just went through this. Don"t hold me to it, but I think I had to install Sierra first and then High Sierra.

As far as I can go unless I install a Metal compatible video card that Mojave requires.

Hope it helps!

So, I’m still on El Captain. Does this mean I’ll never be able to upgrade because I missed Sierra/High Sierra?

:?:

Yeah, I think you need High sierra installed first before you can move up to Mojave. It does a firmware upgrade I guess that needs to be seen by Mojave.

Sierra is not an issue. The High Sierra 10.13.6 final installer performs the correct firmware update without it.

This link works to download the full 10.13.6 installer. It asks if you want to translate and open in the App Store — click Yes to both.

I was in contact with the OP. He was able to download, upgrade his firmware and install High Sierra. OS 10.13.6 is needed for the current version of FCPx.

If you are using any eGPU including DisplayLink, you may be limited to OS 10.13.3. There is a kludge foe 13.4–6 if your Mac is new enough to support AirPlay. My 2010 is not but my wife's 2011 is. In any case, proceed with caution. Mojave restored DisplayLink support.

This is the first I’ve heard of this firmware update thing. I just did some googling and I don’t think it applies to my late 2012 Mac Mini. Seems to be a Mac Pro thing.

That is not correct. It applies to all Macs on installation of High Sierra. In fact, if you did it incrementally, most steps included another firmware update. I don’t remember how many of the steps required one.

Well, FWIW, according to this, it should be possible to upgrade from El Capitan to Mojave, skipping High Sierra.
