Your best bet is a monitor or TV with Display Port capability. Use a MDP to Display Port cable <$10 on Amazon.

Even then, I don’t know that you’ll get better than 2K resolution. Here are the specs for the 5770:

If the monitor only has HDMI in, I doubt you’ll realize even 2K.

I think you miss read the post. I’m talking about upgrading to the ATI RADEON SAFIRE from the 5770.

MacRumors has a relatively hacker free forum for modding Macs. That card should work fine. Be forewarned that some people have had issues with cards being too fat for the PCIe bus right next to the GPU slot. It was one consideration I had when upgrading my card, how much did the fans etc. protrude into the airspace of the PCI slot next to it.
Two Saphires are on the list here, but it's always a risk. https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/09 ... d-for-imac

I have the answer to my own Question. The answer is yes it can. I've been using it since mid January with no problems along with [2] additional 32inch monitors for a total of 3 monitors and can still run the 4k tv in 4k all on the HD 5770. TO LAST GENTLEMAN THAT POSTED ON THIS SUBJECT; I DONT WANT TO BUY YOUR CARD. I SPECIFIED THAT I WANTED THE SAPPHIRE 7950.

You can only get 30Hz 4k via the 5770 though. If the screen lag doesn't bother you, you are golden.

I wasn’t necessarily targeting you as a buyer for my 5770, just offering it in general. Reread my post. Moot point anyway, sold it months ago.

Im guessing that resolution is only available on it with multiple displays??? Before I replaced the card with an RX570 a few months ago, I had my Mac Pro hooked up to our 53" 4K Fire TV. Mac would not go past 1080 with it. When I put it in the RX570, the Mac rebooted for the first time right into 4k with it.

Man that hurt my eyes haha. I couldn't even find the mouse it was like the size of a pixel!

You may have needed to use SwitchResX to get the higher resolution; folks that understand all of this better than I have advised that the 5770 will do 4k, just at 30Hz.

I think it might depend on which version of macOS is being run. I had to jump thru a number of hoops to get 4k 60Hz from my RX460 card under Sierra. An active Display Port to HDMI converter and SwitchResX software got me there.

I understand that Mojave has improved monitor connectivity over HDMI significantly.
