New iMac setup problems - no input from KB or mouse

HI, I just received a refurbished 27" iMac with a wireless keyboard and mouse. I turned the iMac on and get the Welcome screen to setup my account but can't get any input from my wireless mouse or keyboard.....

What should I do.... Should I buy or borrow a wired keyboard..... :?: :?

Is there some trick I am missing :?:

I scoured youtube and apple support but can not find info that relates to this specific issue. Thanks, Fred

Are the wireless units charged? They should charge by connecting via the Lightening to USB cable. This will also serve as a direct connection.

I think that the Magic Mouse is inoperable with the cable attached. The Magic Keyboard, however, will work (as will the Magic TrackPad II if you ever get one).

If you have an old USB wired mouse, that works, too.

Anyway, you may need to set up Bluetooth and let the iMac discover your devices once they have enough juice to connect (won't take long).

Here's the Support page

If you have any problems, have Apple Support give you a call

The Magic Mouse II & Magic TrackPad II will not work before El Capitán and I assume the same fot the Magic Keyboard (I don't have one).

I keep my old USB trackball connected and every once in awhile, that comes in handy. Option Boot sometimes misses the BT connection and wired saves the day.

Thank you Mike! I ended up borrowing a wired USB keyboard from a friend and got in to setup the iMac that way. So far the keyboard and mouse that I got from the dealer aren't working :(

It's good to have friends :) Thanks so much for your help and advice!

Since you just bought it, get on the phone with Apple support first. It might be something simple.
