828mk3 not working on WInXP

I'm trying to get my 828mkl3 working on WinXP SP3. I've tried a couple of drivers (4.0.5.5333 and 4.0.4.8697) but I still get the "No Devices Found" error in Windows Sound, and although my DAWs see the 828 they pass no sound to it. I've tried disabling the MOTU Audio WAVE device in the Device Manager but it makes no difference. Is there s trick, or maybe older drivers, needed to get the 828 working on WinXP?
