DP doesn't see new hardware

Hey folks,
I don't know if this has been covered previously, but I couldn't find anything on it. If I connect an AD converter (either a MOTU 896HD, an Apogee Symphony I/O or a Focusrite FW device) before I power up my Mac, once the Mac comes up, the sound is routed through the AD device, not the internal speakers on the Mac. Every application seems to recognize this except DP. DP still lists the internal speakers as its Hardware Configuration. It lists the connected AD device, but I have to change the Hardware Config each time I crank up the machine.
Not a huge deal, but if there's a way to get DP to recognize the new hardware upon startup to the point it defaults to it, that'd be great.
