828ES Browser and Routing Configuration Issues

Hi,
I have been a long time Motu User, maybe 20 years or more and in December I retired my trusty 2408Mk2 and purchased the new 828ES. I was very excited to get the new unit but have been using it only occasionally. The web interface seems unreliable and unfortunately seems critical to the units operation. 90% of the time the connections made in the routing matrix do not work and when they finally kick in it is only after several times of clicking them on and off. This is extremely frustrating and annoying. However this issue may be related to Safari because when I use Firefox I rarely have any problems. I believe that most Mac users would be using Safari and that I would have seen postings about this but I don't see any.
I am using the latest software:
Firm ware 1.3.3+65
UI Version 1.1.0+74080
Driver version Mac 2.0.0+73695
This is connected via thunderbolt to a MacBook Pro Retina 15inch Mid 2015 with 16GB Ram running MacOS 10.12.6. I use Safari 11.1.1 for the web interface via thunderbolt. There is no ethernet or wifi involved. Also tried connecting with USB and same results. this also happened before the recent Safari update. Its been happening since I got the unit and starting with Safari 11.0.3 I have flushed every browser setting I could find and trashed every preference but still no luck with Safari. I could use Firefox and will but it would be great if it worked with Safari since that is the default Mac browser.
If anyone has had this problem and solved it please let me know.
Thanks,
Chris
