Yep. I’m jazzed.

Had a few conversations out here in Austin. No secrets were spilled but I’ve learned a lot and many of my suspicions are being confirmed.

One of the big announcements yesterday was that iOS apps will be able to be ported to Mac OS. This lit up the chat boards with the expected speculation from the usual suspects predicting unified releases, $50 metronome apps and other nonsense.

I had dinner with an iOS engineer last night who filled me in (he never tells me anything that hasn’t been made public, of course). In this case, Apple is releasing SDKs that let developers port iOS apps to Mac OS with very little to no work for the developer. Apple has been working on this a long time as you can imagine. The first such apps will be from Apple, of course as they’re already done.

There are many reasons why this can’t be applied in reverse, all having to do with the fact that iOS devices have only a tiny fraction of the processing power and RAM of any Mac OS device. It’s not unified code—it can’ be (yet?).

Bottom line for me, it will be nice to install some iOS apps that I like on my Mac if and/or when the developer ports them over. iStroboSoft from Peterson Tuners is an app comes to mind as one I’d like to see.

Has it been determined whether Mojave will run on the converted 5,1 MPs many of us are using?

I know Peterson has a Mac Storobotuner app. I use it on my Mac and I can set it to "listen" to any input on my MOTU interface.

If you have a gpu that supports Metal, you should be good. Time will deliver certainty. Hi

I see. I'm trying to determine if my ATI Radeon 5770 is such a GPU. I'm not positive, but it appears it is not. Would simply installing a Metal compatible video card make my machine Mojave-ready? Does your PC-RX460 support Metal?

Thanks!

The correct link: http://osxdaily.com/2018/06/05/macos-mo ... macs-list/

I saw the compatibility list, but it's unclear if it applies to moded MPs like mine - It's effectively a 2010, but I think I'd need a new graphics card.

If true, looks like my 2010 iMac will become obsolete.

Well. the beta will let me know soon enough.

On the plus side, my DiaplayLink issue will be moot. Anything I buy will support 2 additional monitors without the USB Monitor Box.

Looks like 4 macs here are left behind in addition to two that are already stranded. One newer MacBook might squeeze through.

Presumably, the beta might work on older Macs while the final release doesn't? It looks like Retina is a pre-requisite, and if so, there could be a workaround.

Not all iMacs and MacBooks from mid 2012 are Tetona yet they are supported.

If older Macs like ours are truly abandoned, it will show up early in the Beta releases, perhaps from the beginning. I have an eSATA boot SSD to test these things.

I suppose we could get lucky and there will be a Terminal Command that tells the installer to ignore non-compatible GPUs. ...

Could happen, right? I don't think so either.

Don't mind me ... I was supposed to be home hours ago. Austin—San Francisco direct was cancelled. Stuck in LAX—they think we can board in an hour. Not pleased with Alaska Airlines at the moment.

It doesn't get much more desperate than that. Six hours in Toronto while Air Canada looks for plane that works.
