Errors 103,199 and crashes when compacting projects

Post by Kaczinski »

 HI! I am new to this forum, though I have been using DPsince 2.7 came out ( 2001?).
MY problem: I had been working on a project for a client for several months in DP 4.5 without problems. Then Installed 4.6 and started to use the brilliant pitch correction. three out of 18 songs showed problems: after compacting the projects: one of them crashed performer whenever I tried to reopen the project. The next two showed errors 103 AND 199 when trying to open them, and dont open at all. Meanwhile I've worked the "load" function in the file menu with success on one of them, and rescued the others with a lot of trial and error. I can still ( after making several safety copies) get these to go very funny after compacting the projects. After the compact comand has been executed, performer tries to save and comes up with an error message, saying I should save into a different folder or with a different name. I can only get out of this by force quitting DP. Is this a bug?
Also I am still a bit confused about when Pitch correction will have any real effect on the edited track? It seems, as soon as that track runs a powercore plug in ( any of them ) the pitch correction in DP seems to show no effect ??
My setup: Dual G4 1.25ghz, 1.25 meg, OSX 10.42, DP4.6 and 4.52 Tascam FW1884, TC Powercore PCI using Intonator, MasterX3, CL, Voice channel, EQ-sat, Altiverb,
Any sugestions to solve the riddle are much appreciated.

Hello, did you ever solve this problem? I recently bought the ultralite and am running it with dp4.6 and my program keeps crashing. When I try to reopen the crashed file I get an error = -103. Any sugggestions?

thanks

I'm also running 4.61 and have experienced the Error 199 message on three different projects. However, I do not compact nor do I use pitch automation, so I'm at a loss as to what is causing this.

Kaczinski, you said you were able to rescue the others with a lot of trial and error ... care to enlighten me as to what worked and what didn't?

I'd really like to be able to sort this out and I'm wondering if upgrading to DP5 is the answer or if I should just jump ship and give Logic a try.

My problems where solved with DP 4.61 - it was 4.6 that gave me the problems. Also I got a bit wiser about compacting and switching sequences within a project. Whenever the beat-detection engine is busy - and it almost always is, as soon as you edit any soundbite- don't compact, switch sequences or change cpu intensive plug ins like altiverb or even any powercores. You can turn off beatdetection in Backgroundprocessing preferences, and then everything runs just fine :D !!
Also I am on OSX 10.46, which possibly also helps.
About trying to rescue sequences that don't want to load:
Try opening a new project ( empty), and under file choose: Load. Go to the troublesome project, and it should tell you which sequences you have in there. Also you need to choose if you want to load all or soundbites, orjust the ones for this particular sequence. Often there can be a problem with one of the soundbites, so I suggest only to load those you need. Plug ins can be culprits as well. If loading a project still crashes Performer, try disabling plug ins, by taking them out of the /library/plugins/au or mas folder, then putting them back in one at a time, until you find the one that is troublesome.
It can be a bit labourious, but at least you will have a working DAW and project after that.
For me my setup works an absolute treat now, including pitch correction!
I guess it always takes time to get big upgrades ( like pitch corr. and beat -detection, which gives us AUDIO-quantise (hurray!!) working properly.
I have read that DP 5 also has a few teething problems, so I shall wait a bit.
