Samsung vs. Crucial

I have a 1 TB Samsung 850 EVO that I'm happy with and bought after hearing good things about it. I just found out about a new? SSD from Crucial called the MX500. It has similar specs and the price seems to be better. The 2 TB version is selling for $500.

Is one of these brands/models better than the other?

Not really. I have two EVOs and 2 Crucial drives in my MacPro, and they're both crazy fast and stable. And the savings on the big Crucials is what drove me to buy one.

I have one of each, both 2T.

I have noticed that the Crucial MX300 is a bit slower with very large file transfers (100G+ of VI libraries) than the 850 EVO. Other than that rare instance, I do not notice any difference in real world performance. The MX300 has a 3yr warranty vs 5yr for the 850 EVO if that's important.

There's a new MX500 claiming slightly faster performance and a 5 year warranty. If the price is the same as the MX300, why not?

The Micron 1100 is the OEM/VAR version of the consumer MX300. You'll find these available from systems integrators on eBay. The big difference is that the warranty is only 90 days and if you have a defect, there's no recourse except through the company who sold it to you (their discount takes this into account). Sometimes, you can save big $$$ with these but be aware.
