9.5: Effects Automation doesn't respond

I'm having trouble bypassing and then enabling effects. Their status in the mixing window doesn't change until I click on one of the inserts in the row or lane or whatever you call it. It doesn't matter if it's the one that should react or one of the others. They remain bypassed if they are bypassed by a bypass event. They don't change color when the wiper passes a bypass event and their status remain on or off in the sequence. And yes, automation is ON.

I restarted DP and that solved the issue. But for how long...
