trouble installing LAME

I"m trying to help my brother to be able to make mp3 files. He uses MuseScore. I downloaded Audacity and followed the links to download the LAME installer for Audacity. I tried twice and it said it was a successful installation. However when I did a test in exporting in Audacity, I get:
Audacity needs the file libmp3LAME.dylib to create MP3s.

It gives the location as /usr/local/lib/audacity/libmp3lame.dylib

If I Click OK, I get the message: could not open MP3 encoding library

I'm not sure how to proceed.
TIA

You should find your answer HERE.

The end of the sequence you'll see on the link used to say "Was That so hard?" which I preferred. Oh well, I guess I'll have to provide my own snark. LOL

Thank you for your quick reply. I've given up for the night, but will probably tackle it again tomorrow. The version I downloaded, from the same MacUpdate site, was a later version than your link. I wonder if that is the problem.
What I am looking for is where certain files should be, in one of the libraries, I guess. Under what? Of course he does not use DP. He uses some program called MuseScore.
Thanks,

Have you searched the forum for LAME? There was a brouhaha a few years ago about this.

Back in the days, I used to bounce wav files in DP, then convert to mp3 within Audiofinder.

Following those instructions, I found this.

Not much call for L.A.M.E on the Mac anymore as there is no need. QuickTime and iTunes support mp3 creation without it. I find QT 7.6.6 the easiest to use to export a single file.

For batch processing TwistedWave and DSP Quattro are both very good.

MuseScore... freeware worth every penny.

How does QT 7.6.6 export an MP3? I don't see that available.

Ahhh, you're right. It's mp4 but you can select the level of quality. Can't say I use it much anymore.

Is there any mp3 player that can't read mp4? I made a disk with a few and they played fine in my Toyota.

Yes, I found that before too. The problem is it is not working and he is trying to go from MuseScore to an audio file.

iTunes doesn't play MIDI or MuseScore files. I tried GarageBand too. I have run up against .mid files created in one program not being able to be opened in other programs before. The thing is, if I click the .mid file, it opens in MuseScore. When I try to save it as an MP3, it says it needs LAME. I thought I installed LAME. So are there different versions of LAME. I kept running across LAME for Audacity in my searches, so I downloaded Audacity (which works) and LAME, but I cannot make it work. I don't believe Audacity opens .mid either. In which folders can I check to make sure LAME was installed correctly? That is what I want to know. Also is there a generic LAME?
TIA

Convert the audio to .wav. Then convert the .wav to mp3 or mp4 or... iTunes will certainly do that but it's more convoluted than QT. You can do it in Garageband, too.

Concentrate on the goal, not the way you think it should be done.

The problem with freeware is that there's no support but there are user groups for MuseScore and Audacity.

Audacity doesn't get that much love on the Mac. Why? Because GarageBand is pretty good. Yea, one is "free" but the other is $4.99.
