I'm not clear what you are saying. There is no amplifier in the 828 - it only delivers line-level signals intended to be fed into an amplifier.

Okay

Maybe nothing is being sent out if Line 1 and 2 yet? Do not confuse those with the Main Outs, which use an XLR cable. Use Cuemix, Windows Audio control panel or your DAW to send a signal out of Analog 1 and 2 if you only have quarter-inch plugs available.

Thanks in advance

Maybe this is doing something wrong and not using the proper cable and connectors

I was trying to connect the KEF speaker to the Motu on the main out 1-2 with stereo cable and two jack 6.3

Could you tell me which cable and connectors can work?

I'm using a Mac Pro, with an Apple Firewire-Thunderbolt Converter

Thanks very much

I just looked at the Apogee Ensemble...

http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/ensemble

...and it does not have an amplifier to drive speakers. Only line out and headphone out.

How were you hooking up the Ensemble to your speakers? Headphone output?

Yes, you are missing an amplifier in between the Motu and the speakers.

Unpowered speakers require an amplifier. As has been mentioned, the only one in an 828 is the headphone amp—it has very low Wattage and is designed to power headphones only. Those speakers would have to be extremely sensitive to be driven by the headphone amp but some small speakers will work at very low volume.
