EMI shielding Computer

Hi

I have a smaller homestudio where I mainly record guitars.I have a bad interference from my computer sitting inside a desk and the room is pretty small so its hard to get away.
Have any of you shielded your computer with success?

Just to verify...

When you power down your computer (and display), the hum or noise remains?

Yes, please describe the problem, not what you think might be the solution.

What computer? Is this a noise problem? If so, what kind of noise (high, low, steady, pulsating etc.) and where is coming from?

As Buzzy asks, does it go away when you turn off your computer?

Is it the computer itself?

I have a great deal of recent experience with some of these issues. Not all the money was well spent, unfortunately.

I haven't found a simple way to eliminate this noise from guitars, particularly old Fenders. But simply moving around the room, staying a few feet away from the computer, and orienting the guitar in various positions with respect to the computer monitor usually finds a sweet spot where the noise is not noticeable. You'll want a remote device to control DPs transport so you don't need to be near the computer to record.

Lining the cavity in the guitar with the electronics with copper foil might help in some cases.

In my situation, I deal with this all of the time when a guitarist comes over. Especially amped and mic'ed and through a lot of pedal effects.

He has to turn to find that "null spot" where the noise is minimal.

I had our local electric energy company come by and do some EMF tests and they showed minimal measurements.

I suspect a very nearby transformer but they doubted that.

Possibly some cabling in or under the house.

Years ago, I turned off all of the power to the house and had my son bring his guitar and battery powered amp down. Still had noise!

I have a faint buzz that became more of a squeal when I switched to SSD. It is definitely related to the computer doing work. I believe it has to do with my USB interface. I've heard that using a USB isolator may fix the issue. (A little box with optical interface and short usb cable coming out)

I'm using a little Steinberg UR22, and others have had this issue.

Since it is so faint, I've gotten used to it, it does not show up in the final results, I haven't rushed out to buy a USB isolator and see if it works. I think they run $30-$40 bucks online.

I took some time tryin to figure out the problem.

It gives a hum around 500-2000hz
Before when I turned the computer off it when away.Not this time though.Thats strange
It seems to come from the floor UNDER the computer.I have my room on the second floor and must be some electricals going in the floor to the room under.
I pinpointed the area with my guitar...about a 1x1meter.
I will flick some switches and some fuses downstairs and try to find the the source

You mean 50 - 200? 2000hz is not a "hum".
