MOTU 8282mk3 FW LOUD POPS!

Hey guys!
This is my first post on MOTUnation!
Before four months I experienced a problem. While I was working on a project on Cubase Pro 8.5.5, suddenly I heard a LOUD POP from my monitors (Yamaha HS-50M) my MOTU 828mk3 FW immediately disconnected from MOTU Audio Setup and from Cubase and got burnt! I contacted MOTU Tech Support and got it repaired through its distributor here in Athens. Since that fact, my 828mk3 works fine but this LOUD POP persists! I hear it one to two times per day. Its frequency is random and it bothers me a lot. Since that I am in frequent contact with MOTU Tech Support and we can not find a solution! Could help me please? I do not know what causes this POP.

Do you have other interfaces on the same system?
That pop used to happen to me - it was from the system sync becoming unstable.
If you are using Firewire, switch to using USB instead. Once I did that my problems disappeared. Perhaps the connection is flaky with the Firewire cables they make us use (the 9-pin ones).

Hi Terry!
Thanks for your reply!
No, I am not using other interfaces on the same computer!
My 828mk3 is the FireWire model unfortunately and it lacks USB.
Today for example, it did not appeared...
Should I buy a power conditioner and have all my equipment attached on it?
Theodore.

YES! Especially if your AC supply is not solid!

A power conditioner would offer another layer of stability, for sure.
When I would use DeOxit cleaner on the Firewire ends and connectors, that often would make the problem go away for several days - even two weeks once. Also buying new cables would help. That is why I wonder if the connection is simply not very stable on Firewire cables. But I finally gave up fighting it and went with the USB, even though I was enjoying stacking two units for the inputs by daisy-chaining them for a while. But even used singly, the darn things would never be reliable with the Firewire. I hope you find a solution - I'd be keen to hear what you discover!
(I still have a ton of Firewire cables here!!!)

Hi guys!
Thank you very much for your replies!
You helped me a lot!
Currently I am saving money to get a power conditioner!
I will try electrical contact cleaning, alternate cabling and report back soon!

Firewire has always been rock solid for me on an 828mkII. Advantage: lower CPU hit than USB.

Hi guys,
Lest has to do with my FireWire cable that is wrapped in order to be tidy?
Anyway, I am looking for a physical shop to get a Firewire 400/800 cable.

Hi guys!
Today I bought a new FireWire 400/800 cable and connected the interface with the computer with it. For ten minutes now everything is fine!

Here's hoping with you that the new cable does the trick!

Hey guys!
May I have your attention please?
I tried and changed my old FW cable with a new one. With the a new cable I was fine for two days. After these two days passed the clicks and pops came back. Then I tried and connected to my wall outlet an external outlet that filters the AC current and to this outlet I connect a multi outlet that in this going all my equipment. Again for two days I was fine. After those two days the clicks and pops are back again...
What should I do?
Thanks in advance!

I tested with a FireWire to ThunderBolt adapter but I didn't find any luck...

Does this happen anywhere you might be? Or have all these tests been done in a single location?
The reason I ask is that power brownouts can also cause this to happen (pops, squeals, whistles) from the box losing sync due to a power fluctuation. The only cure is either be in a different location or use a power conditioner if that is the cause.
