New 9.1 upgrade overloads playback...

I thought the upgrade would add the upgrade...instead it replaced 9.0.1.
I have a session today and the playback is overloaded. Impossible to playback without dropouts.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Mike

I've been see processor spikes as well with 9.1.
You can reinstall 9.01.
Also
Check your buffer size. I track at 512 and master at 1024.
Repair permissions!

Repaired permissions...
Running at 1024...
Overloading all over with drop outs every second.
I was not aware the upgrade would delete the old version (9.0.1).
Might have to downgrade...
Any other suggestions?
Thanks, Mike

See if you have any plug-ins that are placed post-fader. This has caused audio drop-outs for many (myself included). This is a known bug that MOTU has told me will be addressed in the next update.

Other stuff and I'd do...
Reset PRAM
Delete plists
Start holding the options key and use "safe" launch to eliminate 3rd party plugs.

MLC, is there a reason you didn't suggest 9.02? It's been working fine for me. Just wondering.

And they come more often as you get older. I speak from experience.

Same playback overload happening here at the highest buffer setting. I downgraded to Dp 9.02 and it's ok now. Hope Motu fixes it soon becuuse i love this cpu enhancement feature! I also have a playback latency problem with VEP5 on DP 9.1.

Try running DP 9.1 at LOWER buffer settings.
I think Magic Dave posted this somewhere but now
I cant find that post.

Yeah, the folks at MOTU recommended that too but it didn't work. They suggested to downgrade to 9.0.2 and wait for them to fix it. So I did and everything is working great.

I started a new thread for this based on your last post Mike. If MOTU says to rollback due to poor audio performance, that is big news, IMO. I had lots of pops and clicks on BTD in 9.1 and when I did them in DP 9.02 they were gone. Seriously, if playback is a problem (and I as well as others were seeing these spikes and performance issues) then MOTU needs to let people know about this and get a fix out pronto! This is unacceptable. How did this get past the beta testers?
Here's the new thread:

I had that in 9.1 when I first loaded the other day but I noticed the HD's clicking away possibly re-sequencing the data. When that stopped so did the dropouts. Still in 9.1.?

FWIW, I've been having trouble with Steven Slate Drums 4 in 9.01. Seems to be related to the pre-gen mode. The two pieces of trouble:
1) With SSD4 closed, drums hits are mostly late, but all over the place.
2) With SSD4 closed, the "Playback" meter starts to peak (this is HD related I believe)
I usually use the multi-out from SSD4 and use aux tracks to get them into my mix rather than audio tracks. If I open SSD4 and click the "Realtime" option in the upper right dropdown menu, all is back to normal, timing fixed, playback meter to not even perceptible and CPU meter drastically lower than in 9.02. I then just have been unchecking the "Floating" and keeping SSD4 open and working fine till MOTU resolves.
I did also open a technote with MOTU regarding this and they offered the following alternative workaround:
"Set the plug-in's output to a bus. Create an audio track. Set the audio track's input to the same bus. Monitor enable the the audio track. This will force the plugin into Real-Time."
Hope this helps someone else

I upgraded to 9.1 strictly for the buffer "improvements." I followed Dave's small buffer settings. Bad news. I had to go back to 1024 and got the exact same pops and dropouts as on version 8 relative to my EastWest Hollywood template. In other words no better and no worse.
Worse, scrubbing with the wiper in the seq window was killing every note, allowing only a few milliseconds of sound, but cutting off random notes. So, out of 25 tracks I have no idea which notes are being cut off. Totally unusable. Further, it killed my computer. I could not open any new programs, like Activity monitor to see what's going on, nor could I quit any program already loaded. Even DP, I had to force quit.
One technician told me that motu knows about the problem, another said he was not aware of it and advised me to start from scratch with a new template. Not a trivial task!
I'd love to hear from other EastWest Play users with big templates out there.
