Problems installing Yosemite: "corrupt..." [RESOLVED]

I'm trying to use an installer that was downloaded on a different computer (in a different Apple Account). But after it quickly scans the file it says:

"This copy of the Install OS X Yosemite.app application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading."

The only thing I could find was there was something about making sure the system date/time was correct, which it is.

The other thing I noticed is that the ownership/permission on the other machine shows "System: Read/Write" then it lists: wheel and everyone as read only.

On this machine, the ownership/permissions shows my name and read/write, then admin (read only), then everyone (read only).

The ownership/permissions could be a red herring. I did see a few hits on this issue, but no solutions. I can't download it from my machine as I never downloaded it while it was available. (Lesson learned-- I'll boot from another drive and get the El Cap installer today!)

Your plan is what I want as about to recommend, or maybe starting the desired machine in target mode and installing from another machine.

You didn't zip the file on the original computer before copying it over. Unzipping on your computer restores the privileges on the new machine.

In GetInfo, unlock the file, add your admin account, grant read and write, check "Apply to enclosed..." This usually works.

I'd update to 10.11, however.

Thanks. I'll try the zipping method first. I'll do the permissions switch you mentioned as well.

If that doesn't work, I'll try installing via target mode.

I might not wait as long to go for 10.11, but I must proceed cautiously. Apple giveth and apple taketh away.

Grant privileges on the problem file first. If that works, it will save time.

If you go back and zip the original then move it. you won't have to do the other.

Been there, done that, learned the lesson.

After a couple more attempts, I did re-download it and then zipped it. Brought it over and installed it with no problems.

Now I'm going to have to see what else besides Finale 2012 and Toast Titanium 8 are "toast".

Toast needs to be version 14.1 and works great. I can vouch for that. v.12 is functional but buggy after Mavericks.

Toast Basic 9.06, bundled with some of their other software, still works.

Finale's issues are well documented and discussed. There are users on the MakeMusic forum able to use Finale 11—I have it but have no desire to fire it up. 14.5 works pretty well.

If you have something to cross-grade, it's less expensive than upgrading your license at AudioDeluxe by about $45 when I checked a few days ago. They're still taking Mosaic, Encore and other serial numbers to qualify.

One little snag I've just hit is that I'm trying to edit my business spreadsheet in Numbers and it is not letting me save, or duplicate, or move, or anything. No major work lost, just need to figure out what is going on there.

I tried turning iCloud Drive on, and then disabling Numbers, etc., tried a few of the things recommended by various threads, but so far no luck. I'm not worried, seems like a fairly easy thing to fix. Just haven't stumbled on the magic formula yet.

Must have been a glitch. Cycling iCloud Drive on/off, and then restoring yesterday's time machine file allowed me to edit & save. I was just stuck trying to save today's edits which are lost. No biggy. Working now.

The main reason I moved from Yosemite to El Cap was that I was having network issues, which you reminded me about when you mentioned iCloud.

In my case the primary problem was it would take up to 2 minutes for my Mac to get network access, especially to the internet. If I booted from a clean install of Yosemite on a different external drive, it would be ok, but the internal SSD was giving me problems.

Anyway, now that you're on Yo! Semite! and it's working, great! El Cap is also working great for me so far.
