Quicktime 7, new codecs, green screen, & El Cap changes

Hey gang,
I recently updated the Pro Res codecs on my Mac and all of a sudden EVERYTHING played back in QT 7 was a bright green screen. I remade about 6 movies (to no avail) and finally checked the QT preferences. The box marked "Enable Final Cut Studio color compatibility" was checked. Unchecking it brought back the movies and all is ok agin, but as in other instances, El Cap (and/or the new codecs or both) have changed settings that have never been set that way before. I've seen it is both Apple apps and 3rd party apps, including Digital Performer.
No further info or comments, but at least if you see the green screen and find this, you might get some relief.
