Upgrading CPU problem??

Has anyone done this? I'm upgrading a 2010 5,1 quad 2.8 ghz Mac Pro. I bought a Xeon X5690 which would clock it at 3.46 ghz. Today the Amazon dealer sent me a X5698 instead which would bring it up to 4.4 but I just don't think it will even work. I haven't seen anything about this.
It seems as though the X5698 is not a commercially available CPU or something so there doesn't seem to be a lot of info about it. Anybody in DP Mac land know?

I recently upgraded my 8 core mid 2010 mac pro from intel x5620s to intel x5670s and have had great results. I am aware of the x5690 but not the x5698. The x5698 is intended for servers not desktops. With prices for the x5690 being close to 400 for refurbished to 1250.00 for new, I chose the x5670. It can handle more than enough cpu power for my needs. I bought two on amazon for around 150 each.... My geek bench 3 64bit test went from 14400 to over 27500.

Never heard of the 5698 until your post. I knowX5680 or 5690 (or, for single-CPU Macs W3680or 90) work great. I've got a W3680 in my 4,1. Love it.
PS: Justs saw your post at MacRumors… looks like a case of mistaken identity, yes?
Have fun with your new screamer.

Lol. Yes. Mistaken identity!! It was all good. From 3 GB Ram to 32 gb; from 2.8 to 3.46. Yeah its zipping.
Now I'm waiting to upgrade my other MP 4,1 Quad 2.66 to 5,1 CPU 3.46 with the W3090 which is crawling to my door tomorrow or the day after.
I'm planning on really screaming in perhaps an unrealistic way. It's really overkill. I guess I'm planning for the future! One machine will be the virtual instrument Mac. I've got Vienna Ensemble Pro that can work as a host on the 2nd Mac. The main Mac will be the primary recording and mixing machine. I'm hoping to bring latency down as low as possible, but really I haven't researched this enough. I'm just flying by the seat of my pants.
I have these two macs because I had two studios: one in a studio and the other at home. I lost the outside studio. So I'm trying to figure out how to optimize them into one until I figure out if I'm going to go back to two! Whew. Complicated.

I trust you mean a W3690.
Don't forget to install the 5,1 firmware BEFORE you install the new CPU in your 4,1!

Update. I finally got the W3690 and installed it on my second MP. I installed the firmware first bringing it to 5,1. Zipping. 32 GB ram, 3.46 from 2.66. Yeah. Now I just have to set the 2nd Mac up as VI machine with Vienna Ensemble Pro and go.
