2 sample looping questions

First thing i want to ask - anyone know of a way to get a sample to start playing as a loop with a note on, ignore the note off and stop playing as a loop with the next note on?
This is what I want:
I hit a MIDI drum pad (note on) I want the loop to start, this is followed by note off according to gate time which sample ignores and keeps looping....
I hit pad again (note on) sample stops playing (followed by note off according to gate time which has no effect obviously as sample has stopped already)
It's doing my head in!
BTW the roland MIDI drum pads I use automatically send a note off after note on - you can set the value between 0.1 and 8 seconds after note on (called the gate time).
The other slightly different thing I want is this:
I hit pad and sample starts playing as a loop, I hit pad again and sample jumps to start of sample and continues looping.
Sample can therefore only be stopped when another sample belonging to same mute group is triggered.
This is even worse because I can't get it to loop this way for a start and also M5 doesn't seem to have mute groups - or does it?
I think I can get round the mute group thing by using the hihat group which acts as monophonic group or using a seperate part in mono mode as a kind of mute group -but it's kind of a dumb way!
All of the above is easy on hardware Akai and Roland samplers. It is crazy if M5 can't do it- is there an M5 way? -am I being dumb here? (probably)

Yes, you set it to play 'ONE SHOT', but why a need for ignoring the note off?
You can set them to "Hihat" group. When another note comes in the earlier one will be off.

Thanks for reply azura
But surely 1 shot mode makes it play through only once then stop. ie 1 shot.
And that's not what I want. Maybe I wasn't clear in my post. Say I have a sample which is me saying '1,2,3,4' what I want is for the whole sample to loop continuously when triggered by a note on - then, when a note off is received sample ignores it and continues looping. Then the next note on stops sample dead.
IOW hit drum pad "1234,1234,1234, 12...." hit drum pad again - silence - hit drum pad again "1234, 1234..." etc
You asked why the need to ignore note off - well because usually it is the note off which stops a sample or loop, but in this case I need the note off ignored and the next note on to do that instead.
The other option I need is same as above EXCEPT when the next note on is played instead of stopping the loop dead it just moves it to the start of loop again and continues...(in this case sample can only be actually stopped by another sample in same mute group)
IOW hit drum pad "1234,1234,1234, 12" hit drum pad again "1234, 1234... "
or to put it another way "1234, 1234,1234, 12/1234, 1234, 1234, 123/1234, 1234" where slash represents hitting a drum pad.
It's so simple! - and like I said before my akai and roland hardware samplers are fine with this kind of thing - M5 MUST be able to do it !?

Are you using mach five through, say DP or a DAW. If so, I would investigate using a MIDI filter to filter out note off messages.

Maybe I am missing something, but if you set an enormously long decay on the sample and loop forward, it should retrigger the sample when you send (play) a "note on" message. Maybe that is easy enough. But stopping the note 'sometimes' seems to be the problem.
If you could send a note on from your trigger, but not a note off, the repeated hits would retrigger (I think there is a mono mode where only one voice will play in a MachFive patch.) You would then have to send a note off signal to stop the sample from playing on command.
To do this, it is your controller, not MachFive which needs the capability of sending a note on or note off as programmed above. Ideally, if you could program "note on" with a velocity of under maybe 100 or 80 (something you know you could hit everytime) and a "note off" with a velocity of 127 (really slam the trigger) on the same trigger pad (key, etc.) then, assuming your controller could be programmed as such, you could trigger the note on "at will" and the note off with a stronger accent.
But again, the ability to do this will be in the controller, and not in the MachFive. Or am I missing something?

If I'm reading your question right I think I can help. I do what you're looking to do in live situations, and we just have the sample holding after note on, and make the patch mono, and the next note on will stop it. To get everything to shut the hell up, we have a very short, nearly silent sample set to single shot.

But he also wants the option to repeat with a second hit, so there has to be a way to do both RESTAR the note on the one hand and STOP the note on the other.
Unless I am misreading the question? Where is that damn poster anyway?
