And THAT would be why "music business" is an oxymoron.

Ain't that the truth. Seems to be the way of things these days....

You and I both know who they SHOULD have hired for that job. (No, not you or me, though we could have done it well, too.)

Playing VIs instead of just assigning them to notes is always the key — and the challenge for those like me. I'd like to find that one-hand controller that lets me play a VI like a real instrument. If it exists, I've yet to find it.

I don't know if I'll do the upgrade or not. Since SampleTank 3, Miroslav works in a 64bit environment. I don't know if the new version will sound any better with my limited ability to coax a realistic performance out of any of the orchestra VIs that I have.

I might do it for the woodwinds. I bought someone's entire IK account a while ago and it came with all the 32 bit libraries, Sample Moog, Tine, Miroslav and Sonic Synth. All 32 bit, all run horribly in Yosemite. What I really need is Sample Tank SE at the least though.

I have a good string library and good brass, but woodwinds and percussion are meh (GPO, Komplete are all I have for those really), so I'm thinking about it. It would be $199, not too bad.

I kinda wish these all just ran in Sample Tank only, or at least SE, then I wouldn't be deciding etc. Realistically though you can pick up SE for $59 with a little 25 iRig controller so I'm just failing about nothing really.

Mostly though I'm debating getting the Komplete 88 keyboard from NI, and wanting to save $ as my busy season is at an end. The lights really makes sense for Kontakt libraries with keyswitching etc. Plus the 88 I have has no aftertouch. :?

I took delivery on the 88 a week ago and have to say I really like it so far.

I'm heavily invested in NI stuff and Kontakt libraries so Komplete Kontrol is very helpful.

The biggest plus is that it "opens up" parts of the NI library I don't typically use. The ability to search across all NKS-compatible instruments for sounds brings up choices in VIs I wouldn't typically call up myself. I feel like I am getting more out of what I already own. Support from other manufacturers for the standard is a huge plus.

If you do it, be sure to read the installation instructions for the software as updating existing stuff, installing the software, and setting up your DAW all require specific steps in preferred orders. I rushed in and just installed stuff and then spent a day retracing my steps to get everything working properly.

As to keyboard feel and action, it works for me but that's a personal thing. A friend of mine felt that it was a little mushy, but neither of us are virtuosic players so YMMV.

Anyway, back to the thread.

Miroslav 2 ordered and awaiting arrival!

Reading the details on the IKM site, it says the library contains all the samples from the earlier Miroslav, and that the old and new samples are compatible with Sampletank 3. All the "32 bit libraries" also work in Sampletank 3. And of course, it is not not the sample libraries that were 32 bit, it was the playback applications that came with them.

I just noticed that I have $33 in Jam Points. I'm assuming that I can use them for this. More tempting...

You can take up to 30% off the special upgrade intro price of $199. I got it for $140.99 using the 50 jam points they gave me plus some I had laying around.

Hmm, I guess I wrote my musings elsewhere, but they echo everything Shooshie said.

Nevertheless, I pre-bought it last night, because I had use-it-or-lose-it JamPointz so the total cost was under $100. I hope I don't regret it, but I have confidence the demos are not representative.

I notice they updated their website with more details, and now it is clearly stated that v1 is NOT entirely included, as they have removed stuff THEY consider redundant.

Hopefully, that does not mean the beloved bassoon patches were taken away, or especially all the breath-driven patches (fairly unique to this library).

IK have stated elsewhere that this is NOT a repackaging of the 2011 Miroslav library (which I think was strings-only).

Having just scored the UVI orchestral library (related to MSI v1 but seemingly a bit different, or maybe it's just that my old iMac wasn't up to the task and I should have kept my MSI v1 license all those years ago), for a mere $29 or so, it was a harder sell for me to do the Miroslav upgrade, but I was feeling generous yesterday in the aftermath of all the terrorist attacks.

Gads! You won't believe it, but those were the exact words going through my mind when I listened. I KNOW you can get far better out of Miroslav, but those demos simply didn't do it.

"...and now for the Swell Manual... the player adds the variable vibrato... the trumpets ring out over the diapason... and the audience is STUNNED once again by... the MIGHTY WURLITZER!"

I grew up with a 45 rpm demo of the mighty Wurlitzer. It was full of songs from the Hit Parade of about 1938.

got to fiddle around on one at Loew's Grand Theater/Louisville in the '60's. I was quickly (and totally) overwhelmed and headed back to my B-3!
