Figuring out outputs in M5

ok, I am an idiot, it's official now.
Looking @ pages 93-94 in the M5 manual, I see it says that I can have control over individual outs of a M5 instance. I have followed the instructions, but all I get are a series of buses for each part - what am I doing wrong, or is the manual wrong?
I offer my thanx in advance for any light-shedding!

Well, in my M5 manual, pages 93 and 94 are about setting up routing for surround sound. Is that what you mean?
Or are you simply talking about directing the outputs of individual parts with an instance of M5?
If the latter's the case, then buss-outs are all you need.
Simply assign a buss-out for a part within M5 (say, for simplicity's sake, part 1 gets buss 1-2). Then create a stereo track, and assign its input as buss 1-2. If you record-enable this stereo track, then press "record," M5 will record your part 1 to your stereo track discretely.

Thanx for that suggestion - yeah I can see how to do that, but for example, what if I want to send one part to the right front speaker in a surround mix?
I suppose I could pick a mono buss, route that etc. etc. but then, where is the "surround" capability of M5? I thought I would be able to place parts in surround mix from within M5, but it seems as though all I can do is get parts to evenly spread themselves thru the surround field, and that doesn't seem too exciting to me.
Maybe I am just too dumb for this thing....
Thanx again!
