DP 4.52 & Mach 5 General frustrations!

Hey guys,
It seems there's a million different things going on with DP at once and no one thing can fix it, based on my search in this forum for solving problems I am having...anyone enlighten me on the following....
DP 4.52
1. Why when I hit the keyboard all of a sudden, the sounds comes in a half second later? I know this is a buffer setting but I'm just not getting it!
2. I added another gig to my memory which makes it 1.75 GB of RAM - still no difference in the performance of DP (very pissed!) Anyone recommend, with this amount of RAM and only using Mach 5 for my sounds, a dependable setup for me with buffer settings, etc.?
3. Is it normal for the cursor to turn to that blasted beachball EVERY fricken time I either "OK" or "CANCEL" out of my "Configure Hardware Audio" and my "Configure Studio Settings" window?? I know I always have to wait about 10 seconds coming out of these windows, whether I've made a change or not!
4. The CPU montior shows the CPU meter hovering at mid-point when DP is in idle - should it be that high? Even with this new CPU management feature they just added? Even with 5 tracks of Mach 5 audio, I max out!
Mach 5
1. Ever since the STREAMING feature came out in Mach 5, I have yet to see it in action...it doesn't work! I certainly don't see the light blinking on the drive (external 7200rpm Firewire drive). I am stumped! I've turned on the STREAMING button for all samples in Mach 5 that I wish to stream, but nothing!
Hey guys, I'm really up in arms here - I have a G4 Dual 1.25 GB with almost 2 GB of RAM and this software is acting like it was written by first graders. Can ANYONE shed some light on these issues? My system just seems too fast and RAM equipped to be experiencing these things!
Thanks a million for any responses! I need them!
Brian

I'll give it shot. Get the ball rolling.
Re: DP...
1.) The lower your buffer setting, the faster your keyboard-to-VI-playback reaction. Also, the lower your buffer setting, the higher the tax on your CPU. The converse is also true.
General rule-of-thumb: Use a low buffer setting when tracking; avoid stacking a bunch of plugins. Use a high buffer setting when mixing; now you can load up the plug-ins..
2.) A high amount of RAM can help make room for large samples. If your MachFive samples are approaching your RAM limit, you'll feel the hit.
3.) Yes. It happens everytime. Sorry.
4.) Again, there's the buffer-to-CPU-hit ratio to consider. Try starting up DP, eliminating all tracks (MIDI, audio, VIs, etc.), and see what you get. With high buffer settings (say, 1024), you should see very little CPU strain.
Re: MachFive...
1.) I don't typically stream into MachFive, so I don't have much advice here. I find it's most efficient when I load sounds in, making sure I'm not head-bumping the RAM ceiling.
My opinion: You should expect good performance from what I understand your system to be.
Help any?

You might suspect the dual processor. There were problems with dual processors in the past with DP. But you do not say which OS you are using.

MIDI Life, do you know what the processor problems were? I'm starting to suspect some of my CPU problems are processor related. I've got a dual 1.25 with maxed ram and it's quiting on me to much.

Hey all,
Thanks for the info - I am using System 10.3.9 (Panther)
Anyone know if Tiger works better?
Thanks,
Brian M

DP 4.52

I had the same problem. I found that if I went to my Preferences/Play and Record/MIDI Solo and Patch Thru, then selected-Use CoreMIDI Patch Thru-my problem stopped.
Hope this works.

Set the "bufer" for 128 or 256 in setup of the Hardware... with this, you will not have more "delay" (latency).

I gave up. I went back to using my mpc4000. I just use DP for audio now.
I have almost Identical setup as you Dual 1.25 g4. 1.5GB ram. I record onto 10,000 rpm sata drive.
everything runs fine over here.

I came across the same solution after oodles of troubleshooting. You'd think MOTU would just make this the default
