Latency with Digital Performer 5

Hello from northwest Georgia, USA

I am running Mac OSX 10.4.6 with a dual 533 MHz Power PC G4.
768 MB SDRAM/Digital Performer 5. I was formerly using a slower Mac with the audio built-in, and haven't experienced latency until now. I am using a Behringer U-Control UCA202. When I record, the playback and audio being recorded aren't aligned-it's as if there's delay in the audio being recorded. Below is the menu where I'm adjusting-this is where I should adjust?

Setup -
Configure Audio System
Fine-tune Audio I/O Timing
Playback Offset: _____ samples
Recording Offset: _____ samples

Positive values make audio earlier.
Negative values make audio later.

What would be values which might get me in proximity? What are the units of these values? I have adjusted these values but haven't hit upon the right combination. Might be a day or two before I'm able to check in again. Thanks in advance for any help. :)

A high buffer will behave exactly as you describe -- interface doesn't matter if not MOTU.

Low buffer size when you record and overdub. The downside is that you may be limited on the number of tracks that will play back. 512 worked for me but others preferred 256 or even 128.

When it's time to mix, set your buffer high enough to be easy on your CPU and let all your recorded tracks play back.

With a MOTU interface, you set Cue Mix to get around this.
