does x86 mean no OSX
one thing I had not thought about..does x86 mean no more OSX.. or does it just mean rewrites of all the programs..I guess one good thing about microsoft is that all the applicatoins always work with previous OS's.. ME and even 98SE..
Re: does x86 mean no OSX
MG - OSX is Apple's Operating System regardless of whatever hardware they put in the Mac, so it will be what runs the Macintels when they are released.Originally posted by mgmediaworks:

Re: does x86 mean no OSX
Macs will still be macs, and OS X isn't going anywhere. A computer is a lot more than a chip. Of course it's an important part (!), but it's JUST a chip. Apple has been thinking about this for 5 years, maybe even more, so I think we can trust them on this one ! I do, and I'm not worried one bit about the future of the Mac, and the future of Apple.

Think of it like getting a faster, better "Big Ben" Clock" for your IO'/apple computer.
Everything stays the same but now if you wanted to put MS on your system that also works.
When you boot up it would show OSX 10.4? or Windows or whatever.
More choices, More speed, Mo money? :Damnit Gumbie!, I guess so.

OS X has been ************Running on INTEL for 5 YEARS****** in Apple's Secret Lab. The latest update toApple's Developer tools have a button at the end that says:Originally posted by mgmediaworks:

Compile for PowerPC
Compile for Intel
Compile for Both.
Developers got that update this week
For History, OS X started out as NeXTStep many years ago, it ran on intel. The first developer release I had of OS X way back when, ONLY RAN ON INTEL. They had to do a lot of work to get it to run on Power PC. Behind the scenes they kept updating it for intel.
Go watch Steve's Keynote @ http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/wwdc05/
All will be revealed and it is a fun show.

Perhaps if you take a moment to watch the keynote then you would have answered your own question.
