Very late to the party but I installed Yosemite 10.10.3 last night on my again 2009 MacBook.

All went well, except I keep seeing this message on startup:

"in order to view this content, you must have the latest version of java installed. Click 'more info'
to visit the java website".

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of java. So I don't know why I keep seeing this
message. Anyone know how to disable it?

After you download and install Java 8, build 45 from Oracle, Safari will open and verify that it is correct. You may have to click on Trust this App to continue.

Did that happen?

Many 32bit apps also require you to download and install Java 6 which is found at Apple. Chrome and MasterWriter are two of them.

No, never saw that message.

Is the "More Info" a legit Oracle link? If not, I'd suspect adware.

Yes. You have to click on it – it takes you to the Oracle web site where you download the latest build of Java. You can also go here – same site:
https://www.java.com/en/download/mac_do ... ?locale=en

Any 32bit only apps that require a 32bit Java Run Time require Java 6 aka the Legacy run time, available from Apple. Google's Chrome browser is one of many apps that require JRE 6. Here's a direct link:

http://download.info.apple.com/Mac_OS_X ... 14-001.dmg

MasterWriter and Finale still require JRE 6 as do certain older Adobe products. No doubt there are others.

The support boards are full of the usual "sick of" and "disgusted with" nonsense. All the "disgusted with Apple" people need to get over it. Oracle owns Java since they bought Sun Micro and made the new rules. This is the way it's going to be from now on.

Thanks, Mike! Downloading and installing from the links you posted worked. After installing Java8
from the link you posted, I did get the "verifying" message upon launching Safari, which didn't happen before.

I wonder what it was I actually downloaded and installed the first time. Oh well, all's well that ends,
as the saying goes.
