including me. It isn't opening for many.

There are reports that the following works. Terminal will ask for your Admin password when you run any sudo. You then have 5-15 minutes before it asks again.

Download iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Open the Terminal
Run "sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app" (copy and paste the command without the " ")
Re-install iTunes

It installed 12.1 for me. It's working now.

I'm betting that Apple knows since the 12.1.2 download site is giving you an older version.

Anyway, I had installed 12.1.2 with the OS X Recovery Update - Update All. This is the likely culprit.

After installing 12.1, I let it update to 12.1.2 through the App Store and it's working fine.

12.1 only installed on my machine yesterday with the 10.10.3 update. Still works.

Yea. Apple released an iTunes update a day later and messed up the installer. Like it's the first time they ever did that...

I've confirmed it's an installer issue. If you run the 12.1.2 Updater by itself, it is fine. I suppose I'll post this on the support boards where everyone is freaking out...

So 12.1.2 is now showing up in the app store as an update. Any word on how safe it is now to update from there as if today?

The problem is that the App doesn't open after installation. This is the biggest clue that the installer was the issue.

The problem occurs with the OS X Yosemite Recovery Update and the iTunes 12.1.2 update being run simultaneously by hitting Update All instead of one at a time.

So expand the list and see how many there are first. OS X Yosemite Recovery Update was released on April 8 so run that first if you haven't yet. When it's done, then run the updater to iTunes 12.1.2.

Just had this problem, remembered this thread, and followed the instruction.

I ended up with iTunes 12.1.2.27 installed, working great.

When I ran Repair Permissions in Disk Utility after fixing this on my iMac, I saw a few unusual lines. Running it again cleared it up.
