Multiple Partions over RAID 5 virtual drive?

I apologize for a Mac type question, but the correct RAID controller card finally arrived today. I made a RAID 5 array from 7 physical 1TB disks, leaving me with a 6TB array. After you do this with the controller card software, you still need to initialize the virtual 6TB disk with Disk Utility. I'm wondering if there's any reason I can't just create partitions on this 6TB array, like:

DP Projects
Sample Libraries
FCPX Projects

I'm going to proceed on the assumption that it should be any big deal. I've created 3 Partitions:

Sample Libraries 1TB
DP Projects 2TB
FCPX Projects 3TB

I don't know why you can't. I just don't understand why you would partition a RAID assembly except to grant limited access to some users on a network.

I found this online calculator giving the capacity and read/write performance of the various RAID numbers.

Probably no good reason except to keep it straight in my mind I guess. I could have just used folders I suppose.

Ahhh... I remember ONE reason I made at least one separate partition. I wanted to move my Sample Libraries over to the RAID and all my VI's have a path set pointing to a volume "Sample Libraries". So I made a partition and just copied over the contents of my "Sample Libraries" drive to the partition on the RAID and then renamed the partition "Sample Libraries".
