HELP SETTING UP 2 MOTU 828 MK IIs - ADAT OPTICAL

Hey Guys,
I had successfully set up 2 MOTUs by firewire
My Setup
----------
Win 7 64 Bit , Two Motus 828 MK II
LATENCY
-------------
The latency is ridiculously High with firewire ,
Input : 12.6 / Output :23 / Buffer :512
When I tried different sampling rates , I started getting pops/cracks etc..
ADAT OPTICAL
------------------
So.....
Ive decided to go the ADAT Optical way and check how well the latency performs.
MY Questions are :-
Setup
1)What physical ADAT OPTICAL cable connections would I use?
MOTU (#1) > FW > My Computer (Correct?)
MOTU (#1) : ADAT OPTICAL IN or OUT ?
MOTU (#2) : ADAT OPTICAL IN or OUT ?
Features
2) By Going the ADAT Optical way would My MIDI / and all Channels (IN/Out) be available ?
What do I give up if I go down this route Vs Firewire?
2) Time Clock
Ive heard people say use WordClock
Is this necessary ? , if so what is the physical word clock cable connection setup between the 2 Motus ?
