Sleep issues with G5 2.5

I tried to sleep my computer last night. When I woke up this morning, the fans were at full blast.

I had to unplug the machine to reset it. When it rebooted it was ok fortunatly. So much for using sleep.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks
TL

Yes.....I've searched all over for a remedy but haven't found one; have you Timeline?

Did you check Apple Software Update to see if you need the G5 Firmware update - it was released to solve deep sleep issues (among other things).

Firmware is up to date, so that's not the problem but thanks for the suggestion, anything helps!

Reset the PMU/SMU - see Apple's Knowlege Base for instructions. Sleep is a function of the Power Manager, so a reset would be the first place to start.

BTW, PMU= Power Management Unit; SMU = System Managment Unit - SMU is replacing PMU on newer systems.

The late 2004 firmware update fixed my "fan on full blast during sleep" problem.
A friend of mine with a dual 2.5 had a bad video card which cased the same symptoms. A new one from Apple solved the problem.
