MOTU 2408 with Adobe Audition and Sound Blaster Audigy FX

Hi,
New to the forum and to the world of MOTU but have plenty of years experience building PC's etc. I am trying to help a friend who's onboard sound card finally gave up the ghost. He has replaced this with the audigy fx but now cannot get the MOTU to work alongside this. My first thought is that as the motu uses the 'audiowire' connection his new sound card would need a compatible input?
The basic problem is that as soon as I select to use the MOTUs ASIO drivers in adobe audition I lose all options to output via the soundblaster card. I know this is a bit sparse but if further detail would help let me know and I will provide all I can.
