RESOLVED=Rhythm brush tool in Drum Editor-get snare on 2 & 4

I'm getting used to the Drum Editor window as I'm working on a dance track.
I've read the manual but can't figure this out:

I'm trying to use the Rhythm Brush tool to 'paint in' a simple snare pattern, with snare hits on beats 2 and 4.

With view resolution set to 8th notes, when I try to paint in a pattern with rhythm brush grid set to half notes,
[2 notes per measure] the notes wind up in columns 2 and 6 instead of
columns 3 and 7 which correspond to beats 2 and 4 of the measure.

When I try view resolution set to quarter notes [only 4 columns viewable for each measure}
I still get the same results.

I am not quantizing this track anywhere. Not in the mixer insert plugins, not in the quantize column of the drum editor. No input quantize. I'm not even touching my MIDI controller here, just using the mouse.

The only way I can get any notes to 'paint in' on the downbeat, is if I select 8th note view resolution and select rhythm brush grid of 8th notes--then all 8 notes appear on the downbeat of each beat----

if I set view resolution to quarter note and select rhythm brush grid of quarter note,
the 4 resulting notes painted in per measure are STILL off beat.

Does anyone have any experience with these sorts of things in the drum editor?
I feel like I'm missing something basic...

I would like to figure out the 'rhythm brush grid' method for something presumably
simple like this,
instead of the 'Custom' menu.......because many of those rhythmic pattern entries are hard for me to keep track of what the resulting pattern actually will sound like. [look at all those 'hats' entries, hats 2, 3, 4 etc.]

Thanks!

-Set the view resolution to quarter note, paint with the brush.
-Use Edit>Search set to Time: Metric Grid. Click on the 1 & 3 in the graphic.
-Set note pitch to D1. Click Search, ⌘ X leaves you with just the 2 & 4

Thanks so much for that solution!
I would never have thought to use the Search function.

I also found another solution:

-set grid resolution to quarter note
-set rhythm brush grid to half note
-set offset grid to 1|000 [otherwise the notes will go on beats 1 and 3]
-now paint away and the snares will go to beats 2 and 4.

Problem solved!

Excellent!
That is the solution.
