Hi !
I have installed Maverick on a new drive ( 2008 MacPro ) from the store.
The install went well but ........
The install have recreated the same users as my Lion which is perfect for me.
But when I try to re-install new software on Maverick, It is asking for the admin name and password. Usually, it asking only for the password ?
I enter those and it fails .........
Anyone knows how to solve that ?

Thanks

REPAIR PERMISSIONS!

If you have the install disc that came with the machine, use that to "install" Mac OS. When the routine runs (you have to restart with the disc in the machine first) go to the Utilities and change the password (not sure about the user name but you can probably change it there as well). You DON'T have to reinstall Mavericks but you might have to (alternately) run the installer you used to get Mavericks on the machine and run the Utility there to change the password.

BE CAREFUL! If you change your user name you could loose authorizations on some programs. I also found this:

MIDI Life Crisis , I do not want to change the name or passwords since they works fine when I log in !!!!!! It is only when I try to install the MOTU audio driver software that I got the problem.

Minor detail you left out... your post leaves the impression that you can't install ANY software. So plan B. Contact MOTU.

You are right , too many details ;-(

Mavericks installed properly
I can log in Mavericks properly too
When I try to install anything, not only Motu but any software, any package , it does ask for the admin name and password which I give correctly and it fails .
What is new to me is the name asking !!!!!!

It's not a problem but a feature.

Plenty of threads in Apple Support about this. You have to modify your security settings.

ML introduced new security settings; Mavericks refined them a little. These are all detailed in the release notes and articles that accompanied both releases.

You can go to the Security panel in System Preferences and let your fingers do the walking or Google the problem and find the relevant Apple support threads.

Just in case !!!!!!

I found nothing about this problem on the Apple site or Google!

So, I have decided to re-install from my local hard drive Mavericks package.

Now , everything is normal and my audio software works fine on Mavericks installed on my Mac Pro 3.1
