Komplete 9 Install Failure

Hi,
10 discs in ( on a 12 disc series) on the install I got the bad news window: "Installation failed... contact the manufacturer for assistance". I went to the NI forums and I'm not alone on this one, no response from NI tech for any of it. One guy said he just kept trying and on the 5th attempt it worked. The instruments seem to load OK, it's library content that seems to be the problem.
Any experience with this one? Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I'd call NI tech support, they're much better via phone imo.

Hey Rob, I have Komplete 9 sitting here.. probably won't install it until my current project is over, a few weeks.

I've had this happen with Komplete a couple times before. They've always sent replacement disks that work. But waiting another week, and, after how many hours of installing the damn thing, that's the problem.

Since it's more usual for me to have a problem with a Komplete install, I'm going to assume that there is a problem with the one I have, and try to be prepared. Thanks for the heads up!

Yep. I'm day 3 into failures and work arounds and downloads with 9, waiting for NI phone tech to open again at 11am PT. I'll let you know how it goes. Definitely not something to mess with if a deadline's looming.

I would copy the disks onto the desktop and try installing from there. If that doesn't work the easy way, try creating a disk image first in Toast or Disk Utility - this will normally apply error correction to read/write errors.

This is often a sign of a dusty lense in the optical drive. If doing the above works, you can buy lense cleaner CDs with small fiber brushes. One of my clients is a guitar builder - he has to run the lense cleaner once a year or so to keep his optical drives working.

The first 11 discs performed on the install, just the last one is failing. Per NI tech advice, I downloaded Disc 12. That didn't work either. Then I tried the "create image" thing to no avail. Next, they suggested it was my download error. Now I'm downloading again with "igetter" per NI's advice. I think my player's fine, but I'll try the cleaner. I have plenty of time to run out and get it while the download's happening, plus run 5 miles, eat dinner and do the dishes. Maybe read the latest TapeOp, too.

Eureka!
I made a guess that one library component was blowing the install: "Scarbee Vintage Keys". After 5 or 6 install attempts dedicated to that alone (mounted an ".iso" NI download, not the DVD, not a repaired image of the DVD) it worked! Thanks for the support, Mike. Although your precise method didn't solve my issue, it kept me from giving up as I tried work-arounds.

Glad I could sort of help.

I have had similar download issues over the years and many of us had something similar with the MachFive 3.2 libraries when they came out awhile back. Rare but frustrating when it happens.

I find that, for some reason, the Opera browser handles difficult downloads better and when they fail in other browsers. It's the only reason I keep it in my Applications folder.

Have had the same issue with Komplete 7, 8 and 9. Always "failureā€¦" on the last disc. Generally Service Center has newer updates anyway. Have learned to just shrug and NOT try to re-install all 11 discs again. :)

Same here. Got a failure notice on the last disc of a Komplete 9 install. I just went ahead and authorized and updated and everything worked fine.

Their installs have always been problematic for me. I've never done one yet that didn't give some kind of error message, although the last one went a bit smoother and the error was minor. Still, after all these years you would think they could sort out these issues. The install takes a LONG time as it is without errors piled on top of it.

I've never had an issue with any of the NI install disks. I just recently re-installed Komplete 9 on a new Mac and had no issues.

lol, okay!

BTW, some sleuth on another forum found this, and it appears that Komplete 10 might be just around the corner, along with new NI keyboards:
