I am upgrading to a new mac and want a laptop.
I found a 14 inch ibook(1.3 GHz) on sale for $799 plus a gig of ram ($255 installed) for a grand total of $1054.
Just for reference the 12inch pb(1.5GHz) is $1399 and the 15inch pb(1.67GHz) is $1899 not including the ram.
Any opinions on if the differences in price are worth it?
I know that the 15" pb has the pcia slot, but I'm mostly a keyboard guy that only occaisionally records mics. Also, up till now I'm running an older system, so I'm not up on the latest ersions of DP and how they play with ibooks versus pbs.

The PowerBooks are faster. Period. They have faster front side busses (FSBs) and faster RAM busses, can handle more RAM and have better I/O. They are Apple's "pro" level laptop. The iBook is Apple's "consumer" or home user laptop. Designed and built for home user type uses (email, web browsing, word processing).

Not saying an iBook won't do what you want, but the PowerBook will certainly do it better for longer. Now, whether that's worth the extra $$ is your call.

Think of it this way:

Pro: PowerMac, PowerBook
Home: iMac, iBook, MacMini
Edu: eMac
